Batman Interlude is hereby dedicated to the memory of Sam Loeb, son of comic writer Jeph Loeb.
Sam was as old as I was when he left us, yet he made such a lasting impact on all those he worked with. He was destined for greatness as a comic writer. He organized an excellent, well balanced story in Dark Horse's TALES OF THE VAMPIRES #5, working with his father's most recognizable collaborator, illustrator Tim Sale.
He was then working on SUPERMAN/BATMAN #26, a series his father has gained much acclaim for, but passed on before he could complete the work.
When recently asked about his son in a Newsarama.com article, his father responded:
"You're asking me what made my son special; I don't know if that's something I can put into words. Anyone who met him just felt it. People would say that he was an "old soul." That often times he had a way of understanding Life that 40-year-old so-called "grown-ups" hadn't grasped yet. Maybe that's why his life was so short... because he lived it all in the seventeen years we had with him."
Batman Interlude will be dedicated to Sam's memory simply because I admire all that he had achieved for a person younger than myself, and the impact he had on so many people. He is truly a soul to be admired for years to come, showing so many what a creative mind in a young body can so gracefully achieve.
Thank you Sam, for showing me that the achivements for those our age are limitless, and for showing me that the will to dream is impossible to break.
